Missing Persons Report #1225
Report received June 08, 2010
Subject: Gary
Male, dark hair, approx. 2cm tall
June 10, 2010
“When guarding something out of bounds and mysterious, it becomes a great burden to do so with integrity and without intrigue. Such is the case for noble and courageous Gary. O, how the mighty have fallen. It is believed to have become too much for our young friend, and was last spotted leaving his post, heading into the mine himself. Subject is said to be without hard hat, and could well have done himself a mischief deep within the ravine.
Upon further investigation with our Excavation Rescue Team in tow, we have explored the outer perimeters of the mine. As we reached the edge of a particularly steep shaft, we found what appears to one of Gary’s shoes. We cannot determine the direction Gary has taken, but we can see something glistening across the hole.”
June 11, 2010
“We have returned to attempt a daring manoeuvre to navigate over yesterday’s deep mineshaft in order to investigate the glistening object.
After a successful crossing, I can report what appears to be a huge ornate mirror scaling the left side of the mine. What’s more interesting is the pile of possessions found next to the monument. We have determined the climbing gear belongs to Gary. Furthermore, due to this discovery, we can only assume this is Gary’s destination, however, where is our young explorer now?”
June 12, 2010
“We have set up 24 hour surveillance in the mine, and hope to locate the whereabouts of Gary soon. On discovery of the mirror, our team cannot remove it, nor see behind it. It is as if the mirror is a part of the mine. There are no records of the mysterious object in the mine’s history, nor have we found anything detailing the discovery in any of the mine’s old shift reports.
We searched every available route for Gary, and have found none. All we can hope for now is, wherever he has gone, he comes back to collect his things.”
Somewhere Far Away
Gary stands, one foot infinitely colder than the other on a snowy mountain range, with no recollection of how he got here, nor the precise location of where “here” is. Afraid to move, it has been days since Gary arrived in the barren land. His mobile phone, before it ran out of battery was, respectively, out of range. Resourceful as he is, Gary has rationed his immediate food supply, and located enough dry wood to sustain a small fire. Slowly roasting some tinned ham on his fire, Gary stares at the huge mirror stuck to the side of the mountain, subconsciously aware it is the reason behind his current predicament.

T’was a lovely spring day in the world of Lasuni — birds were singing, people were laughing and invisible ducks were swimming blissfully in the duck pond as Gary sat by his usual post. He stared across the bridge with a feeling of pride, smiling in the knowledge that it was his acts that protected the Lasoons from the unknown terrors of the cave. But then a sudden and unexpected thought occurred to him — what was he guarding? He thought back to the day he met Jason and Dasaii.
He had been walking along feeling miserable and lonely. He had just been exiled from his village because of his talkative nature, and was looking for a place to set up camp when in the distance he saw two men building a bridge. Cautiously he approached the men — one in blue and one in red. To his surprise the men where overjoyed to see him, for they needed help. They desperately needed a strapping young lad to guard future Lasoons from the terrors of the cave.
“But why?” said Gary as he looked at the ominous cave across the river. But they wouldn’t say. They just kept begging and pleading him until he finally gave in. So for the next few months he remained at his post day and night, pleading with the new Lasoons to not venture into the cave.
“But that’s not fair...” Gary said silently to himself “I deserve to know...” Gary was suddenly angry with the way he had been treated. Why was he doomed to sit across the river, while all of the other bots got to frolic around with the towns people? They got to guide and sell things to the Lasoons, but all Gary ever got to do was tell them to go away! And he didn’t even know why! So Gary, filled with rage, stormed into cave without looking back. All of the Lasoons where frozen with astonishment — where had Gary gone? Luckily, Geoff — who happened to have been looking out the window at that time — saw what happened and ran out in the hopes of savingGary. But he was too late. Gary was long gone — lost in the darkness of the cave. So Geoff resigned to sitting at Gary’s usual post, hoping beyond hope that his friend Gary might someday return.
